Through monitoring and tracking user feedback on the spam message and spam call receiving system via the numbers 5656 and 156, recently, the Vietnam Cyberspace Emergency Response Center (VNCERT/CC) - Information Security Department has continuously recorded many feedbacks from people about the situation of impersonating bank employees calling to request support for salary advances for employees
Currently, scammers are constantly "launching" many tricks to lure people, especially the latest trick is "salary advances". The subjects call to inform that "you are eligible for a 6-month salary advance through the bank. For more details, please press 1 so that the staff can guide you to enter the necessary information and receive your salary". However, to receive the 6 months of salary advanced before, the customer must pay a fee called the money transfer fee.
After the user transfers money, the subject takes measures such as blocking communication and erasing all traces. This is a fairly new form of property appropriation fraud in recent times. People may encounter the following risks:
- Personal information is leaked when filling out the salary advance information form.
- Loss of a fee called a money transfer fee.
VNCERT/CC Center recommends that banks do not notify salary advances through channels such as phone calls, SMS messages, emails, chat software with strange phone numbers or via Zalo, Viber, Facebook... Therefore, users should absolutely not provide information or transfer money in any form. If you have any questions, please look up information, the official website of the bank and contact the customer support center of the bank you are using to ask for information and get help.
Given the current situation of spam calls and calls with signs of fraud, people need to save evidence (text messages or call recordings) and report to the telecommunications enterprise managing the subscriber to request handling if the above phenomenon occurs. In addition, people need to immediately report to the police for handling or notify the criminal hotline number 0692348560 of the Criminal Police Department for timely guidance.
